READ THIS BEFORE PLAYING - Excry has permanent consequences
What is a Softlock?
A softlock is when your character becomes permanently damaged or unplayable due to irreversible choices. Unlike most Roblox games, Excry does NOT allow you to undo major decisions. One wrong choice can force you to:
- Delete your character and start over (losing all progress)
- Be locked out of advanced classes forever
- Waste dozens of hours on an unviable build
SOFTLOCK #1: The Mage Trap
SEVERITY: EXTREME - Can permanently ruin your account
The Problem:
To unlock the Mage class, you MUST have a Mana Core in your inventory BEFORE reaching Level 10.
❌ If you reach Level 10 without Mana Core = PERMANENT SOFTLOCK
You cannot unlock Mage, and you cannot go back. Your only option is to delete the character.
The Solution:
- Complete Esman's Quest in the starter village
- Talk to NPC "Esman"
- Complete his task to receive Gold Necklace
- Dismantle the Gold Necklace (DO NOT SELL IT!)
- Go to Blacksmith Demetrius
- Choose "Dismantle" option (NOT "Sell")
- You will receive crafting materials
- Craft or obtain Mana Core before Level 10
- Use materials from dismantled necklace
- Alternative: Find through exploration
- Additional Requirement: DO NOT buy any weapon from Demetrius if you want to be a Mage
- Mage requires "no weapon purchase record"
- Use fists or found weapons only
💡 Pro Tip: If you're unsure about becoming a Mage, get the Mana Core anyway. It's better to have it and not need it than to softlock yourself.
SOFTLOCK #2: Weapon Path Locking
SEVERITY: HIGH - Locks your class progression
The Problem:
Your first weapon purchase from Blacksmith Demetrius determines which advanced classes you can unlock. This choice is PERMANENT.
Example: Choose Scythe → Can unlock Reaper → Can use Nocturnal Edge
❌ Choose Katana → CANNOT unlock Reaper → CANNOT use Nocturnal Edge (even if you find it!)
Weapon → Class Paths:
🗡️ Katana / Longsword → Ronin
Fast combos, frame traps, high skill ceiling
⚔️ Greatsword → Berserker
Heavy damage, slow but devastating
🔱 Spear → Thunder Piercer
Range control, stun mechanics
💀 Scythe → Reaper
Teleportation, space control, requires Nocturnal Edge for full potential
👊 Fist → Rose (Mage advancement)
Battle mage, energy blades, EXPENSIVE (750 Nebulae per skill)
The Solution:
BEFORE buying your first weapon:
- Research which advanced class you want (Ronin, Berserker, Reaper, etc.)
- Check the weapon requirement for that class
- Buy ONLY that weapon type from Demetrius
- Stick with it until you unlock the advanced class
SOFTLOCK #3: Regression (Death Penalty)
SEVERITY: MEDIUM - Gradual character weakening
The Problem:
Excry has a 4-life system. When you die:
- Deaths 1-4: Lose one life, respawn at anchor
- Life depleted: Fight your own clone
- Lose to clone: Character becomes Weakened (stat reduction)
- Multiple losses: Progressive stat loss and "forgetting" (Regression)
The Solution:
- Don't be greedy: Retreat when low on HP. Healing is expensive.
- Learn to parry: Perfect blocks don't consume your posture
- Use terrain: Wall-combos and high ground give advantages
- Stock food: Visit Ruined Kingdom frequently (Vitality doesn't regen HP!)
Other Critical Mistakes to Avoid
❌ Selling the Gold Necklace
ALWAYS DISMANTLE, NEVER SELL
The Gold Necklace from Esman's quest contains materials for Glider and Lantern. If you sell it for a few Nebulae, you'll waste 1-2 hours farming crates to get those materials back.
❌ Ignoring Psionics
Psionics is the "Gatekeeper Attribute"
Many advanced talents and special skills (like "Psychosis" and "Roar") require minimum Psionics thresholds. Neglecting this stat will lock your character's growth ceiling.
⚠️ Rose Class is EXPENSIVE
Total Cost: 2,750 Nebulae
- Class Unlock: 500 Nebulae
- Each Skill: 750 Nebulae × 3 = 2,250 Nebulae
- Plus: Requires Fist Proficiency A (hidden requirement!)
❌ Pure Vitality Build
Vitality does NOT increase HP regeneration
HP regen is fixed at 2 HP per 2 seconds. Stacking Vitality without healing items or support is ineffective. You MUST stock food from Ruined Kingdom or find a Doctor player.
